Micro four thirds looks about the same, it's bigger than the 1 inch sensor but in reality the DOF looks about the same. You can get a shallow depth of field, but for run and gun type things, you can keep things in focus because of that 1 inch sensor. Something like that being fairly close to them around 50mm, with two people in a scene for example, the background is blown out and they stay in focus.įor run and gun video I really like these new 1 inch sensor 4k cameras. Now I shoot a normal scene at 5.6 to 7.1. I used to shoot everything at 2.8 or 1.8. I only go with an extreme shallow depth of field on special shots where it's real controlled. But if you shoot everything in F 2.8 with motion, if you're close to them they will move in and out of focus constantly. With a still subject, F 2.8 you capture that still subject. It was way too much trouble to deal with and at the end of the day the content is what matters.Īs far as focusing as well, one big thing if you're new to video, is that full frame sensor is huge for video. I never used it in the 5D Mark iii either, Raw video wasn't worth it to me. I just eye ball it like I did in the 5D Mark ii days. I have had it lock up my camera before, but after I took the battery out and put it back in it worked. It seems to be fairly safe, it would make my batteries real hot though.Īt one time the focus peaking was really accurate, but I quit using it whenever they changed something in the nightly builds and the focus peaking isn't that accurate, and that was really the only thing I used it for. I use a 6D with a VAF-6D filter in it so there is no alias and moire.
